October 11, 2011-The Philadelphia Housing Authority formally opened the award-winning Mantua Square at 35th Street and Fairmount Avenue in West Philadelphia today as part of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) “Housing America” month celebration. The development stands on the former site of an outdated 18-story high rise building demolished in March 2008.

The award is given by Pennsylvania Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities (PAHRA). Only one housing authority can win this award.

July 27, 2016-The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) has awarded 9 percent Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) worth over $13 million toward the construction of the new development. The total cost of the Strawberry Mansion Apartments is estimated at $23 million.

PHA cuts the ribbon on $31 million in stimulus-funded housing around the city
December 14, 2010 – Philadelphia Housing Authority General Manager of Community Development and Design Michael Johns set to work getting applications in for as many projects as he could. From fixing blight in Mill Creek to the construction of the Mantua Square development in West Philadelphia, many of PHA’s wishes have since been answered. This week, PHA cut the ribbon on 340 rehabbed housing units scattered across the city. The development is PHA’s largest stimulus-funded project to date and provides homes for people once living in shelters or on the street.

June 2011 - 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania, a group dedicated to smart growth and sustainability. Norris is PHA’s first ever LEED Gold development.
Commonwealth Award Winners for Design Announced
June 10, 2009- An environmental group devoted to “smart growth” across the state, recognized two PHA developments with Commonwealth Awards for Design. The group recognized Ludlow Scattered Sites Hope VI and Nellie Reynolds Gardens with Bronze Awards. 2006 Martin Luther King Plaza won commonwealth Design award. The awards showcase the best examples of smart growth design from across Pennsylvania.
